Dr. KN Jeejeebhoy Award

This $2500 award is for a 2nd year post-graduate resident in gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine who has demonstrated excellence in clinical medicine, research and teaching. Candidates will be evaluated by the GI Awards Sub-Committee and Research Committee based on teaching scores, training evaluations and curriculum vitae. The award will be presented at GI Research Day in June.

Dr. Lou Cole Awards

There are 2 Lou Cole awards for excellence in teaching, one for a GI trainee (who is awarded a $300 University of Toronto Bookstore gift certificate) and one for the GI faculty. The candidates are nominated by their peers (GI faculty or trainees) who send letters or emails to nominate individuals and briefly justify their choice by describing the nominee's positive attributes as it relates to teaching. The nominees are then notified and are asked to provide their teaching dossier with effectiveness scores for the previous 2 years (for the Faculty) and the names of 3-5 current or former students who could provide testimonials regarding the nominees teaching skills (faculty or trainees). These materials are then evaluated by a committee which will include division heads, program director, division director and post-graduate program director.

Division of Gastroenterology Intramural Awards in Quality of Care/Patient Safety and in Education

These $5000 awards (one in Quality of Care/Patient Safety and one in Education) are intended to promote research collaboration across sites within the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Toronto. They are intended as seed money/pilot funds for projects/initiatives that involve at least 2 faculty members (at least 1 of whom is a member of the Division of Gastroenterology) from at least 2 sites at the University.

Fellowship Award – Top up

This award is to provide top-up money of $10,000 from the University of Toronto GI Division to contribute toward a fellowship either 1) for salary, to reach $50,000/year salary support or 2) for tuitions

Young GI Faculty Advancement Award

The award of up to $10,000 for 1 year with possible 1 year renewal is to cover tuitions regarding post-graduate courses

CAG Resident Research Training Awards

The CAG is pleased to partner with, Novartis Pharmaceutical Canada Inc., Axcan Pharma Inc., and Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. to support research towards the advancement of Gastroenterology in Canada. We are pleased to offer a program for residents- in-training to apply for a research grant to encourage and facilitate research training opportunities.

PSI Research Award

The purpose of the PSI Research Award is to recognize residents presenting the best papers on a clinically related project. An award of $2,000 will be awarded to five residents.

Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a one year, funded position which will provide the applicant with focused training in clinical care and clinical/translational or basic research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The Fellowship will be based primarily at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada. The program will be designed according to the interests of the successful applicant, with the approval of the Faculty. The intent of the Fellowship is to position the trainee for a fulltime academic appointment by providing the skills necessary to achieve a university faculty position if desired. It would also be useful for a community practice position with a strong interest in the clinical care of IBD patients.

Ogden-Goldstein Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

To be awarded to one or more graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine studying various forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, with emphasis on Crohn’s Disease. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Department of Medicine or Department of Surgery.
